Away from home again, my cases packed
with everything I need, or so I thought,
but recently my memory has cracked –
and concourse stores supplied what I forgot.
On board, I analysed a balance sheet,
and got to grips with an obscure report,
while magazines discarded near my seat
were luring me with gossip, style and sport.
These business trips invariably seem
to tire the body and to bend the brain;
what’s called for is a more relaxed regime
that helps us work but also keeps us sane.
In need of balance and a peaceful space,
here in this room I find my own still place.
